A Bio-diversity Hot Spot
Nha Trang bay was acknowledged in 2003 as one of the most beautiful in the world by the UNESCO-backed Club of the World's Magnificent Bays, joining Ha Long Bay in the country's north. The Nha Trang Bay is home for soft coral sites brimming with exotic reef fish. Nha Trang is becoming a tourism hotspot in South Asia. Today, Nha Trang ranks among the top beaches in Vietnam and are included in the top 29 most beautiful bays in the world. This beautiful landscape is endowed with wonderful natural scenery and beaches of fine sand, an ideal temperate climate, surrounded by hills, mountains and tropical forests. The sea is all the more embellished with colorful coral reefs, vestiges of mangrove forests and rare sea creatures in an ideal environment.
Being endowed with a coastal line of over 200 km in length, with nearly 200 big and small islands, Khanh Hoa has a temperate climate with more than 300 sunny days in a year and an average temperature of 26C. Khanh Hoa posses a great deal of scenic beauty such as the island of Mother, Van Phong bay, Duc My hot-water spring, Lo river, the islands of Hon Tam ( Silk Worm Island – Where the hotel is built), Tri Nguyen, Bich Dam, Hon Mun, Hon Ong and particularly Nha Trang beach, located at the center of the city. This beautiful bay beach makes this strong attractiveness to Nha Trang.
To many it might be said that Nha Trang is rewarded by nature with a diverse harmony, combining the beauties of mountains, forests, sea and islands.
This importance is also shown at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute, the largest of its kind in Indochina, where thousands of oceanic life samples and exhibits are on display. It is also home to the largest oceanic library in Vietnam.
The Organic Garden and Farm
At the Hon Tam Island’s vegetable garden, the following crop management system is practiced, inspired by lessons learned from Nature. The natural forest shows the way to an ideal system. It is bio-diversity which ensures ecological balance. We maintain bio- diversity in our garden by cultivating more than 15 species at any given time. Rotating our crops are also a key contribution.
The hotel’s guests are given the opportunity of picking up the fruits and vegetable which are cooked according the hotels health menu. If the guests are interested they can even join out traditional farmers to experience a few hours of work.
Soil fertilization is one of the most important tasks in agriculture. The concept of our garden is to restore and improve the soil's fertility for healthy plant growth and to maintain good yields. In keeping with nature, both animals and plants die and decay in the forest soil and in meadows. They are then re-cycled by time and water. We use 2 key systems; Composting ; the process of composting can be defined as the decomposition or breakdown and integration of organic materials with mineral matter by a large mixed population of microorganisms in a warm, moist, aerated environment. This is done in order to create a humus end product. Green manure crops; leguminous and carbonados plants growing in site has a root systems which id freely left in the soil. These are turned into humus by micro and macro flora and fauna. The aerial growth of these plants are used as mulching material, controlling weeds, water evaporation and providing a long term feed to the soil.
The farms feeds are based on the hotels hygienic food refuse and organic feed.
Is Organic food better? A research made at Rutgers University in the U.S.A compared vegetable grown organically with vegetable grown in synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. The research has clearly proven that Organic Foods are better!
Organically grown vegetables contain two times more phosphorus, three to six times more Calcium, three to ten times more Magnesium, two to three times more Potassium, five to ten times more Boron, up to hundred times more Manganese, up to fifty times more Iron and up to hundred times more Copper
